I am usually against best sellers, but the other night I made myself turn off the computer, rid my world of noise, and sit and read....After rummaging amonst the falling bookshelf, I remembered having a book Jen let me borrow awhile back, and never got around to reading.. Anyways 'The Alchemist' was a super quick read with some mighty fine things to say... About discovering your own Personal Legend, and recognizing the things the world is trying to say to you... SO if you havent come upon the alchemist, take 3 hours off from the noise around you and read...

May the 1st.. Six years since

Six years since I found myself..It was a sunday six years ago in 2000.. after a weekend with a cold, I made my way back to the dorms...I remember the sun that night as it was setting.huge. I made my way to Erin's room to give her a birthday present..a snapshot I had gotten blown up, and a homemade birthday card...getting set to end the semester we talked of a keys trip the next week or so....I skated to the library, computerless, I typed up my final english paper to hand in the next day, still under the weather and weary..making it back I went to bed early to re-edit the next day and study for a statistics exam... none of which ever happened.. I got up around 7.. got dressed quick to go on my daily run; i remember distinctly how hard it was to tie my shoe laces.. i recall locking my door, and seeing a overflowing garbage can near the elevator..

the next thing i remember is squarley hitting my head on a tree branch..Fuck.. then i hit another, scratched in the face...murmuring to myself what the hell... blurry, and dis-oriented..another one, stumbling into a chain link fence, falling over... hearing distant voices saying 'Ah he had a rough one' and trying to respond I say "I'm just really tired' I sat down cross-legged, took off my shoes, and thought about crawling back to bed...then a cop or someone came up and started asking me questions.. I kept saying 'I'm not on anything' 'I don't know whats going on' Ambulance ride.. hospital..MRI=STROKE.. A week in the tank...I made my way out into a different world as a different person.. I absolutely believe that this event was meant to happen, and it had a profound effect on my life from that point on... what if I had stayed in bed? the clot would have cut off oxygen to my brain for hours, perhaps days, until someone came looking for me...to die, or live as a vegetable.. my choice to get up and try to run that morning, saved my life...

I think often about this day May the 1st. Constantly trying to remind myself of the important things in life, and in being thankful for what I have.. not complaining, cause my lot is a hella lot better than many..

..It's so interesting the way the brain works in regard to memory..Certain images have attached themselves within our minds, and a re-occurence of that image releases the floodgates to days gone by.. Old baseball cards sure do this for me.. Ran across this one in particular when I was rummaging through my left behinds in the garage at my moms house.. Chuck Tanner... I miss the good ol' days ..

Went and saw Sam Rivers last night down at Wills Pub.. Some sweet jazz.. the guy is 82 yrs old, and just got out of the hospital, still tearing it up with a rad band behind him.. Check them out every wednesday at Wills Pub $8 Bucks...

BACK HOME

Went down to West Palm for a couple days in attempts to gather up some of those lost feelings of home... Though it's not a complete home anymore, memory and nostalgia smother the place... I just like to make art out in the old workshop, get dirty, lie in the grass, and drink iced tea all day long... no true direction home, but I'm trying...my mom is strong as hell....

here is another link to a rad artist and a cool guy.. hope to trade more with him, and maybe even have a group show one day.. I think our works would go so well with one another....check em out.. ROBERT MARS
